near 44th Street, Manhattan
All (BIPOC and non-BIPOC) are welcome.

Join us in this BIPOC-led Buddhist meditation for peace in Palestine and Israel. We will practice facing the USS Intrepid to re-affirm our resolve to show up and stand up for justice and against militarism.

As Black, Indigenous, Peoples of Color we know in every cell of our body the suffering rooted in the denial of our humanity, dignity, and sovereignty. From the ravages and legacies of colonialism, slavery, occupation, apartheid, to continued bias and systemic racism, we know in our marrow the generational harm and trauma. We see ourselves and our histories in the faces and lives of Palestinians.

We also recognize and hold in our bones the suffering and persecution of our Jewish kin, in Israel and everywhere. We honor the Jewish voices calling for peace, their call for never again is now and not in our name.

We gather for this meditation practice to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. The cycle of violence must stop. We gather to echo and embody the words of our Vietnamese ancestor Thich Nhat Hanh (in his 2003 address to US Congress): Violence cannot remove violence… There is no way to peace: peace itself is the way.

Please bring something to sit on, and while we encourage folks to come, if possible, in practice attire, please dress appropriate to the weather.

We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.
– Thich Nhat Hanh
